Green tea is known worldwide for being a  very healthy beverage. It has antioxidants and numerous substances that are great for your health. There are several studies that show that green tea enhances fat burning and thus helps in weight loss. In this post, we take a look at some reasons why green tea is an ideal beverage if you want to shake off some fat.

1. Green contains bioactive compounds that improve health

There is more to green tea than just being a green liquid. Most of the bioactive compounds contained in the tea leaves make it to the final drink, and they contain so many nutrients. Some of these nutrients are polyphenols such as catechins and flavonoids that are powerful antioxidants.

The two substances play a big role in protecting body molecules and cells from damage as well as minimizing the formation of free radicals. These radicals play a big role in different sorts of diseases as well as aging.

Green tea also contains Epigallocatechin Gallate ( EGCG) that is known to help in treating numerous diseases thereby making green tea a powerful medicinal beverage.

2. Green tea improves brain function

Apart from keeping you awake, green tea contains compounds that can make you smarter. The key ingredient for this function is caffeine that is contained in minimal levels than coffee.

Caffeine helps in unblocking a neurotransmitter known as Adenosine. Through this, it enhances the firing the concentration and firing of neurotransmitters such as neropinephrine and dopamine.

Several studies show that caffeine helps improve several functions of the brain such as memory, vigilance, improved mood, and reaction time.

Green tea also contains an amino acid L-theanine, that when combined with caffeine becomes potent in improving brain function.

3. Green tea improves physical performance and fat burning

If you have been keen on the ingredients of most if not all fat burning supplements you have to come across green tea. The reason is that green tea has been shown to boost metabolic rate and increase fat burning.

However, it is important to note that in some studies, there was no significant increase in metabolism; therefore, the effects of the tea may vary from one person to another. Caffeine is also known to enhance physical performance by activating fat tissues and making the body use the fat as energy.

4. Green tea lowers the risk of cancer

Cancer is now one of the leading causes of death globally and is caused by abnormal and uncontrolled cell growth. Research shows that oxidative damage is a core contributor to the development of cancer, and a protective effect can be caused by oxidants.

Green tea is an excellent source of antioxidants, therefore; we can say that green tea can minimize the risk of cancer. Research shows that women who have green tea have 22% chances of getting breast cancer, 57% fewer chances of colorectal cancer, and men have 46% fewer chances of prostate cancer.

5. Green tea enhances dental health

The catechins contained in green tea have more biological effects than just protecting cells. Some studies reveal that they inhibit viruses and kill bacteria thereby lowering the risk of infections and enhance your dental health. Green tea helps reduce bad breath and risk of caries.
